Department of Public Health Dentistry
The Department of Public Health Dentistry at Nimra Institute of Dental Sciences is committed to promoting oral health at the community level while shaping future dental professionals with a deep understanding of preventive and community-oriented dental care. We play a pivotal role in training Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students to become not only skilled clinicians but also advocates for oral health promotion and disease prevention.
Our department focuses on assessing community oral health needs, planning and implementing public health programs, and conducting outreach services in both urban and rural settings. Through school dental health programs, screening camps, oral health education initiatives, and research activities, students are given hands-on experience in addressing the oral health challenges of diverse populations.
As prescribed by the Dental Council of India (DCI), the under-graduate curriculum in Public Health Dentistry covers a wide spectrum of subjects, including:
- Principles of Public Health and Dental Public Health
- Epidemiology of oral diseases and preventive dentistry
- Health care delivery systems in India
- Public health program planning and evaluation
- Biostatistics and research methodology
- Oral health survey procedures
- National oral health policy and legislation
- Environmental and occupational health
Students also undergo training in organizing and executing field programs, conducting oral health surveys, tobacco cessation initiatives and delivering preventive services such as fluoride application and oral hygiene instruction.
With a strong emphasis on evidence-based public health practice and interdisciplinary collaboration, we aim to instill in our students a holistic approach to dental care that prioritizes prevention, equity, and accessibility. The department is quickly equipping itself with the necessary infrastructure and other facilities to undertake epidemiological studies and health promotion strategies, preparing graduates to contribute meaningfully to national and global oral health goals.
Our vision is to foster a generation of dental professionals who are empathetic, community-focused, and dedicated to making a difference beyond the dental chair.
