Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology

Department Of Oral Pathology & Microbiology

The Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology was established in academic year 2023-24 and encompasses two key subjects within the BDS curriculum: Dental Anatomy, Embryology & Oral Histology, and Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology. Recently, Forensic Odontology has also been incorporated into the department.

Dental Anatomy, Embryology & Oral Histology is introduced in the first year of BDS. It covers the development, morphology, physiology, and histology of the head and neck—providing students with a clear understanding of normal structures before progressing to pathological conditions.

Oral Pathology & Microbiology, taught in the second and third years, focuses on diseases of the head and neck. Students learn about incidence and prevalence, etiopathogenesis, diagnostic investigations, and disease identification, thereby equipping them to become proficient clinicians.

The specialty of Oral Pathology and Microbiology is designed to develop comprehensive knowledge and technical skills necessary for laboratory investigative techniques and interpretation of findings. This expertise supports dental and medical practitioners in preventing, diagnosing, and treating oral and maxillofacial anomalies and diseases.

Our department is staffed by highly experienced faculty who mentor undergraduate students. We are proud of our extensive national and international publications, which speak to our academic commitment and scholarly contributions.

The modern histopathological and microbiological laboratory is well-equipped with advanced instruments, including a microtome, tissue processor, multi-projector system, and a research microscope . The facility also houses dedicated laboratories for undergraduate students along with a pathology museum showcasing a collection of rare specimens.
