Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry
The Department of Pediatric and Preventive dentistry is an age-defined specialty in dental institutions focused exclusively on the comprehensive oral health care of infants, children and adolescents, including those with special healthcare needs.
Key Services Offered: :
- Preventive Procedures: Topical Fluoride applications, Pit and fissure sealants and oral prophylaxis.
- Pediatric Endodontics: Pulpotomy, Pulpectomy and apexification for primary and young permanent teeth.
- Habit breaking appliances: To stop thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, mouth breathing habits
- Space management: Place Space maintainers and Regainers to safeguard the path for future permanent teeth.
- Behavior management: Use of Non- Pharmacological and Pharmacological methods including conscious sedation and General anesthesia for highly anxious or uncooperative patients.
Academic and Training Programs:
Offers training for Under graduate (BDS- Bachelor of Dental Surgery) with a strong evidence based practice and child psychology. Students are trained in Preventive, Interceptive, Behavior management procedures unique to Pediatric Patients. Students further enhance their academic excellence by actively participating in seminars, workshops, and continuing education programs.
Community outreach:
Regular School dental health programs, Dental camps are organized to increase awareness and access to child dental care. The Department collaborates with Local schools, Health authorities to extend services to underserved, rural populations.
